Description:
The St Enoch’s Centre is one of Scotland’s top shopping destinations. Located in the city centre of Glasgow - the mall hosts major retailers such as Hamleys, John Lewis and Debenhams.
The project comprised the streetscape works around the new St Enoch’s Centre re-development and refurbishment of the square itself, drainage, granite slabbing, installation of street furniture and tree planting. Services were also installed including drainage, street lighting and service posts to provide power, lighting and water for outdoor market stalls.
The city centre location of the site provided several challenges to overcome. A traffic management system was implemented to segregate pedestrians from the live working environment, ensuring the safety of both the public and workforce.
The mapping and awareness of existing fibre optic cables and the roof to the underground station below were critical to eliminate the risk of damage during the excavation phase of the project.
The complex nature of the work and tight timescale required the team to collaborate with the client which ensured successful completion. A 24/7 work schedule was initiated to incorporate additional works and still allow the retail units to achieve their target opening dates.
