Parapet Cope Replacement, Queen Margaret University, Musselburgh

Redpath has provided parapet cope replacement works at Queen Margaret University Student Accommodation Blocks A-H.

This project involved carefully removing existing copes above brickwork, metal cladding and rendered walls, stripping plywood above brickwork sections for inspection of wall ties, supply and fit of new wall ties, reinstating plywood and supply and fit of new cope.

Early engagement with our client was essential in planning our approach to the works. This involved:

  • Clearly identifying and communicating activities and their sequence.
  • Pinpointing the most appropriate point in the academic year for the project to commence.
  • Putting the appropriate resources and processes in place to successfully deliver the project.
  • Identifying key stakeholders and keeping them informed.

We agreed to carry out the works in two phases to ensure minimal disruption to the University buildings, allowing continuity of service to the benefit of students and staff. We have completed Phase 1 so far with Phase 2 commencing later this year.
